EL GRAN ESPACIO DE LA CREACIÓN ACTUAL. El recinto del antiguo matadero municipal de Madrid, uno de los establecimientos industriales más singulares e interesantes, va a transformarse en Matadero Madrid. Sus naves van a ser habilitadas para acoger las futuras instalaciones de un gran proyecto contemporáneo, que se integra en el planteamiento general de creación y mejora de los grandes centros culturales metropolitanos: el Centro Conde Duque “La memoria” y el Palacio de Comunicaciones “La ciudad”. Un nuevo centro de la ciudad, en la confluencia de la prolongación suroeste del eje cultural Prado-Recoletos con la futura gran avenida del Manzanares. Matadero Madrid contribuirá a extender la centralidad de la ciudad de Madrid al río Manzanares, dotando de identidad artística el espacio urbano del sur de Madrid y de los distritos de Arganzuela y Usera en concreto en el barrio de Legazpi. Matadero Madrid será un centro de exhibición de los trabajos más innovadores y experimentales de creadores nacionales e internacional, es sede de los programas culturales más relevantes de Madrid y escaparate de lo más interesante del panorama artístico nacional e internacional. Un espacio vivo abierto a todos los campos de la creación, que favorece el encuentro y el diálogo entre creadores y públicos. Su carácter multidisciplinar e interdisciplinar otorga al proyecto la riqueza que surge de la interacción y el intercambio de experiencias entre creadores, profesionales y seguidores de los distintos campos y disciplinas; pintura, escultura, grabado, instalación, videoarte, cine, fotografía, vídeo, nuevos medios, teatro, danza, performance, contemporáneo, electroacústica, urbana, fusión, narrativa, poesía, ensayo, gráfico, industrial, ilustración, pública, urbanismo, interiorismo, creación, transdisciplinar , comunicación, artes plásticas, artes visuales, artes escénicas, música, literatura, arquitectura, paisajismo, diseño, moda, gastronomía. El ámbito de actuación del proyecto engloba la zona del antiguo establecimiento de abastecimiento municipal en el sector sureste del conjunto, con un total de diez edificios, y en el sector noroeste, que incluye el pabellón de antiguos establos (hoy sede de la Compañía Nacional de Danza y el Ballet Nacional de España) y la antigua nave de patatas (Invernadero), la Casa del reloj y la antigua nave de patatas. Matadero Madrid seeks to reinforce the city’s image abroad in order to become a new cultural icon and contribute to the dissemination of Madrid’s increasingly outstanding role among the large European cultural capitals. The project’s scope covers an area of the former municipal supply establishment in the southeastern sector of the complex, a total of ten buildings, and in the northwestern sector, which includes the old stables (headquarters today for the Compañía Nacional de Danza and the Ballet Nacional de España) as well as the old potato storehouse (now a greenhouse) and La Casa del Reloj.
