ACCA

ÆO

Based on an auditory and visual study on how to make the force of the wind tangible, this project seeks to develop a series of wind instruments that explore the wind as a representative metaphor for the imperceptible forces that govern our unconscious. Historical musical instruments such as aeolian harps and wind chimes, and meteorological instruments such as anemometers, weathervanes and windsocks will serve as inspiration for the creation of these wind devices, which will be installed in the central square of the Matadero. Based on the experimental production of these instruments in situ, a set of sonic, kinetic and videographic compositions will be produced that will make use of the poetic and metaphorical force of the wind to examine free will, cognitive biases, cognitive psychology, behavioural economics and algorithmic governance in the context of the current techno-social environment. Acting as visual and sonic translators, these instruments make the wind’s force visible. This force is symbolically associated with the idea of freedom and randomness, reconfiguring its allegorical meaning to represent the way in which our unconscious can be inadvertently manipulated by internal and external forces, as if it were a vane.

BIO
ACCA is a multidisciplinary Portuguese artistic duo, based in Madrid since 2018, consisting of André Covas (designer and musician) and Carmo Azeredo (artist, researcher, editorial designer and artistic producer). Through the complementarity of their professional foundations, together they explore the intersection between art, music, design, technology and critical thinking, producing visual essays on some of the concerns and curiosity they share about today. The artistic reflections that they have been producing since the end of 2017 dialogue with topics such as digital democracy, cognitive biases, the post-truth era, the Anthropocene, or the conflict between the desire for freedom and the need for control, among others. Their artistic practice is developed in a varied way, favouring the use of sound, text, images, new media, design, and the installation format. They collaborate with and are part of the collective CampaNice (Porto), and in Madrid they set up a small design studio called ACCAstudio.
